Sinazo Pelisa Yolwa

Sinazo grew up in the Eastern Cape, raised by a single mother. She was an only child for most of her childhood, until two of her mom’s three sisters passed away. She now has three little sisters competing for her mom’s attention!

Sinazo Pelisa Yolwa moved to Cape Town to finish high school in 2004. She stayed in Khayelitsha for a few months, but the distance she had to travel daily forced her to look for a place closer to Sea Point. She found a flat in Green Point, and stayed there until she finished matric in 2006.

Staying on her own was not as daunting as she expected, she guess growing up as an only child helped her establish her independence from an early age. The biggest challenge was adjusting to having flat mates after years of never having to share her personal space.

Sinazo matriculated with two distinctions (for English and Afrikaans) in 2006, and she was awarded the Stephen Young Scholarship- the highest honour bestowed upon a student at Sea Point High. She was accepted into UCT to study Bcomm accounting in 2007.She was awarded the UCT Association of Black Alumni bursary in 2009.

Sinazo has suffered a few setbacks along the way, but she will be graduating at the end of 2010, and continuing with post-graduate studies in 2011.
